【摘要】2010年春季学期,美国中西部一所公立研究型大学U的教育学院为研究生开设了一门“行动研究”的教育研究方法课程。U大学两个校区地处两座城市,相距车程一小时,因此任课教Z博士选择在两座城市间通勤,每周交替在一个校区授课,另一校区则通过视频和互联网接入,两所校区共有十二位研究生参与。YEH是课上一个三人团队的姓名缩写,这三人来自同一校区,共同完成一项课业要求,即以课堂为情境开展一项研究。YEH团队的选题源于她们对远程教学和课堂讨论的观察。该团队运用课上所学的研究方法,收集并分析定量和定性数据,并基于研究发现对远程教学课堂提出了行动方案。本文首先详述了YEH团队的研究过程和研究发现,即“我们研究课堂”。作为这堂课的学生也是YEH研究团队的一员,笔者发现自己在研究中有意无意地实践着行动研究的一些基本原则。因此,笔者又开展了一项研究,收集并分析了YEH团队记录整个研究的卷宗、对研究团队另外两位成员的访谈,以及笔者自己的研究日志,即“我研究我们”,并为有意开展类似课堂实践、提高学生学习收获的任课教师提出建议。

We Study the Class, and I Study Us:A Group Research

in A Distance Class

Abstract: At the education school of a large public research university in the Midwest of the United States, twelve graduate students from two campuses enrolled in an course titled "Action Research". The course instructor, Dr. Z., alternated her presence between two sites. The class alternated between being online with video and on campus. YEH was the acronym of a team of three students in this class from one campus, and the team conducted a group research project as a required course assignment. For this project, the group explored the unique complication distance education brings to online course discussions. They employed the research methods learned in class, collected and analyzed quantitative and qualitative data, and used the findings to outline an action plan for distance education classes. The first section of the paper presents the procedure and findings of the action research project conducted by the YEH team.  As a student of action research and a member of the YEH research team, I found myself applying several principles of action research intentionally or not throughout the process. A research question sprang up regarding what student researchers learned about action research from this assignment. Based on the portfolio compiled by the YEH team that recorded the entire study, the interview data with the other two team members and my own research journal, the second section of this paper addresses this question and advances suggestions for instructors who desire to improve student learning with group research projects.
